Ike is referred to by his gospel music family as "Brother Smooth." If you have ever heard him play, you understand why. He brings together the captivating sound of the tenor saxophone and southern gospel music in a way that will thrill your soul.
Ike started playing sax at about five years old, but he did not get serious about it until he was in the seventh-grade. Ike's high school in Pensacola did not have a band so he just played in church. He would play for revivals all over the area.
Since taking up the instrument, Ike has had the pleasure to play with some very well-known gospel groups, including the Singing Rambos, Hal Kennedy, The Will Corhan Singers, and with J.G. Whitfield & The Workmen Quartet.
Ironically, Ike did not play at all from 1974 until March of 2001. He says it was only the great grace of GOD that he was able to pick this instrument back up and play again. Ike's wish is that all that have put their instruments down would pick them back up and make a joyful noise unto the LORD.
